Integrating Automatic Dialers with the Voiceware Systems TSP

Overview:

Telephone markets are deregulating across the world. Service providers who make access easy and convenient will win more corporate customers in the marketplace. Many service providers are turning to inexpensive dialers as a way to direct traffic from large volume corporate clients to their platforms. These dialers allow the customer to dial the telephone as they normally would without changing any of their habits or patterns. The dialer analyzes the number that the subscriber dialed and makes a decision about how the call should be handled. Local calls are dialed out over the PTT network and toll calls are directed toward the service providers platform.

It is not enough to provide inexpensive access to toll networks. Yes, you will win some business by providing low prices compared to the incumbent PTT operators. But to capture a much larger market share, many service providers are turning to dialers to add steady monthly income. Dialers are easy to install by the customer. They simply plug into a standard jack in between the phone or PBX and the phone company. Customers love them because they don
t have to dial local access numbers and long access codes each time they want to make a phone call. Furthermore, these devices build customer loyalty just through their shear convenience. By targeting businesses such as hotels, import/export, embassies, multi-national firms, and other high volume users, the service provider can quickly tap a large market.
Dialers come in many sizes from single-line to large multi-line devices geared toward PBX installations. Some dialers start out as low as eight dollars per port in quantity and can rise to as high as $100 per port. The price depends on the number of features needed by the service provider. In most cases, no programming changes have to be made to the customer
s existing phone system. Occasionally basic wiring must be performed for larger units and it is recommended that the service provider contract with a telephone service company to perform this minor wiring modification. The Voiceware TSP integrates with the dialers through a series of tones that are transmitted in sequence. The following is an example of how a typical integration would work.

1.  Customer picks up their phone.
2.  The dialer plays a false dial tone to the customer and waits for the customer to dial.
3.  The customer dials 0015616551770.
4.  The dialer analyzes the number and decides that it should send the call to the service provider
s platform.
5.  The dialer picks up on the phone line it is attached to and dials the local access number. In this example it will be 555-1111.
6.  The Voiceware
TSP Platform sees the dialer calling and answers the incoming call. Upon answer, the TSP immediately sends a D tone to the dialer.
7.  The dialer recognizes the
D tone as the Send command and immediately sends its unique account identifier. In this case, the dialer sends 111222333# as the account number.
8.  Next the dialer sends
0015616551770# as the original phone number that was dialed.
9.  The TSP now has all of the information it needs to process the call and immediately sends the call to the network.
10.  Once the call is complete, the TSP sends a
B tone to the dialer to tell it to disconnect. The TSP then bills account number 111222333 for the exact amount of the call.

The customer was never aware that any of this happened and in most cases only hears the disconnect tone at the end if it is programmed. In most cases, this whole process will add less than 5-7 seconds over the time it takes to dial direct.
