WIRELESS INTEGRATION WITH THE TSP™
By Chuck Poole, Chief Technology Officer

Overview:

The Telephony Services Platform (TSP)
is a full-featured Enhanced Services Platform. A single TSP system can provide an array of services to any wireless or wireline environment. In addition, the TSP can stand-alone as a complete Long Distance carrier switching system for standard and specialized switching applications. By choosing Voiceware Systems as your technology partner, you will have instant access to the latest in revenue-building and customer-retaining features. You will also open the door to the fast growing prepaid wireless market. Please review the following outline of features and services Voiceware Systems can offer your organization TODAY.

TSP Services:
Prepaid Wireless, Calling Card, and Local Services:

Prepaid wireless services have become more popular in recent years as service providers have begun to realize there is a huge, untapped market to provide services to the credit-challenged or budget minded individual. In addition, some foreign PTT’s have found a use for this technology to curb roaming fraud by limiting the amount of calls a roaming subscriber can make by day, week, or month. Voiceware
Systems offers a complete solution adapted from over 8 years of experience in the Prepaid Calling Card marketplace. With the Telephony Services Platform (TSP), accounts can be recharged by calling card or by credit/debit card, depending on the application.

Call Example:

1. The wireless subscriber places a call as they normally would to any valid number in the public network using a pre-subscribed wireless device.
After routine dialed number validation, the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MSTO) recognizes by class of service that the subscriber’s call should be handled by the TSP
.

The MTSO routes the subscriber to the TSP’s trunk group and passes along the Mobile Identification Number (MIN) and the dialed number via ISDN or Feature Group D protocol, depending on the type of facilities available.
The TSP
checks the subscriber’s balance and decides whether to allow the call to go through, play the customer a recharge message, or send the call to an operator.
The TSP
monitors the call for disconnect supervision and updates the subscriber’s balance upon call completion.

One-Call:

One-Call services are geared toward the busy mobile professional and provide a single point of contact, no matter where they may travel. The premise is simple; a direct One-Call telephone number is assigned to the mobile subscriber. The subscriber adds all of their contact numbers to a list contained in the TSP
. When the One-Call “trigger” number is called, the TSP asks the customer for their name and then dials each of the numbers, either sequentially or simultaneously. The subscriber can answer any of the ringing lines and the caller’s name is immediately announced. At this point, the subscriber has the option to accept the call or send it to Voice Mail.

The TSP
One-Call feature is a win-win for both the service provider and the subscriber. For the service provider, it provides a new high-quality service that increases billable minutes and decreases churn. For the subscriber, it provides a valuable new tool that helps turn missed calls and telephone tag into more closed deals and greater productivity.

Voice Mail and Fax Mail:

Voice Mail is very common on most mobile platforms. Voiceware
Systems takes it to the next level by allowing the subscriber to receive a fax either automatically (CNG tone recognition) or by having the caller press a particular touch-tone to activate the fax system. After a fax is received, the TSP can automatically route the fax to another fax machine or store the fax in the subscriber’s mailbox for redirecting in the future to any fax machine in the world. Voice annotation is supported, so the caller can describe the content of the fax in a voice message before it is sent.

Multi-Party Conference Calling:

With Voiceware
Systems’ optional Conference Calling feature, a subscriber can initiate an instant “business meeting” while on the move. Up to 16 people can be added into a single conference. For the service provider, each leg of the conference adds billable minutes and another tool to help win and retain the business of large corporate customers.

IVR and Information Services:

On many mobile networks, there is an increasing trend to offer value-added information services such as traffic congestion reports, weather, news updates, and the like. In addition, commonly requested information such as new dialing procedures can be recorded in customized messages. The TSP
provides a fully featured scripting language that allows the mobile provider to create complex menus of information on demand, specialized call routing sequences, or complete Interactive Voice Response (IVR) applications.

Credit/Debit Account Recharge:

The latest trend in banking has solved one of the biggest headaches in the prepaid wireless industry. With check cards, anyone can get a debit-based Visa or MasterCard as easily as ordering checks. Credit Card Recharge was a huge problem because the typical prepaid client doesn’t have a credit card. Now, all that is necessary is to partner with a local financial institution that issues debit (sometimes called “check cards”) cards to help potential subscribers utilize the advanced automatic pre-payment options available in the TSP
.

There are two major ways of performing a recharge: Active and Passive. Both methods operate in the background during an active telephone call and require a pre-approved credit card number with expiration entered in the subscriber’s account record. At the point of sale for the mobile phone, the customer can be asked to sign a voucher or payment agreement. To prevent fraud, no other credit (debit) card is allowed for recharge activities except the one covered by the signature on file.

Active Recharge:

An Active recharge requires the subscriber’s participation in the recharge process. When the subscriber’s balance reaches the preprogrammed recharge threshold, the TSP
will ask the subscriber for a confirmation to proceed with the recharge. After the subscriber presses a touch-tone to authorize the recharge, the TSP checks to make sure no fraud (usage) thresholds has been exceeded. Usage thresholds can be assigned by user and can cover daily, weekly, or monthly periods. The TSP contacts the credit card processor and if the charge is approved, updates the subscriber’s balance in real time.

Passive Recharge:

Passive recharge operates the same as an Active recharge, except the subscriber does not have the option to authorize the recharge. However, the subscriber is notified that a recharge is taking place. The TSP
automatically recharges the subscriber’s account upon the recharge threshold being reached.

Agent Support:

One of the best ways to increase revenues is to take on “virtual partners” in the form of agents. The TSP
supports an unlimited number of agents and has built-in two tiered, wholesale and retail, billing and call rating. This allows agents and retail outlets to private-label, resell, or bundle their services with those of the switch owner. With Voiceware Systems’ optional IP Agent Gateway, agents can modify and update any customer-specific features and change the rates charged to any destination from the Internet, or a dial-up modem connection. Security is field level and each agent can be assigned full or partial access rights. At the end of a billing cycle, an agent can automatically download their billing files. Using the TSP’s Billing and Reporting package, agents can provide customized invoices directly to their customers or the switch owner can print the billing for the agents as an added service.

Internet-based Service:

Voiceware
Systems’ optional IP Customer Service provides call center operators access to subscriber information, programmable account options, and call detail records (CDR) in real time. This feature can be accessed from the public Internet, private Intranet, and modem dial-up. Operator Services can be added to allow taking control of incoming customer service calls. Operators can place a call on the subscriber’s behalf using the subscriber’s prepaid account without using additional switch connections. The Operator Services feature is a great tool for servicing customers that misdial frequently and for servicing regions where touch-tone telephones are scarce.

To keep your private data from prying eyes, all IP-based modules support full Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and certificate-based security. Optional firewall support takes security to the next level.

Touch-Tone-based Customer Service:

This feature is designed for smaller retail outlets and non-computerized agents. It allows an agent in the field to activate, deactivate and add money to accounts from any touch-tone phone. The system supports security by agent, limiting the scope of functions an agent can access.
